WHY A FESTIVAL?

New Beginnings is a festival to celebrate new beginnings both on a personal level, in arts and culture and on a general level in society after the pandemic. It is also a festival to celebrate the end of the network project Culture Connection 6263 within the network North Cultitude 6263 that Malakta is part of.

WHERE AND WHAT IS MALAKTA

Malakta is located in an old dairy factory by the Malax River in the municipality of Malax in western Finland. The location is in the middle of a beautiful and quiet countryside.

Malakta is an artist-run center for creativity, culture, arts and people. Our aim is to create an oasis for people where creativity, ideas, art, and culture can grow and flourish.

Our slogan is “Art is for Everyone!”

We have arranged and hosted events, concerts, workshops, theater shows, masterclasses or labs, retreats and creative get-togethers since 2007. We also house artist studios, crafts workshops, artist residencies and a film production company all under the same roof. Malakta’s creative community also realizes projects together with regional, national and international collaborators. Since 2017 Malakta has been run by AiM –Art in Malakta rf Association.

Malakta is a vibrant and growing space welcoming national and international artists, the local community, groups, associations, companies, and all with an interest in creating better conditions for people, ideas and organizations to develop in a sustainable and dynamic way.

MURAL RURAL 2.0
The festival New Beginnings  is connected to Malaktas long ongoing, community mural project Mural Rural, that is coming this late summer in version 2.0.  It’s all about connecting the urban mural painting traditions to a rural, scenic environment. The famous mural- and graffiti painter Dirty Elmo is doing a brand new mural painting in Malax that is thematically inspired by the theme and name of the festival New Beginning. Follow the process and get more information on the Mural Rural-site  (updates coming soon).
