Mentored residency program:

In this program is included personal artistic Mentor to support your own artistic work during your stay.

The residency fee covers your stay including:

• Use of a shared apartment with a private bedroom and an ateljé space regarding your artistic needs. We have shared spaces to use too, them you will find online on our site: https://www.malakta.fi/studios/
• On-site mentoring offered by local professional artists is included in the residency program and you will get a personal mentor to meet up with during your stay at Malakta to help you with your own artistic work and in the use of different workspaces if needed. On our website you can find all the active artists at Malakta that have the possibility to provide mentoring during your stay.

Mentored – residenssiohjelma: Taiteilija, tervetuloa residenssiin. Tarjolla on 1-2 kk mittainen residenssiohjelma, joista jokainen räätälöidään omien taiteellisten toiveidesi pohjalta. Pääset mukaan aktiiviseen monitaiteelliseen yhteisöön, saat käyttöösi asunnon ja työtilan, sekä monipuoliset jaetut työtilat omaan taiteelliseen työskentelyyn. Työskentelysi tueksi saat henkilökohtaisen Mentorin vierailusi ajaksi. Residenssi ohjelman hinta on 1850 € / kk. Sis. mentoroinnin, oman huoneen jaetussa asunnossa, oma työtila, saunan käyttö ja ohjaus paikan päällä tilojen käytössä. Jooga ja äänikylpyjä on avoinna tarjolla taiteilijoille. Haku on auki ja käsittelemme hakemuksia jatkuvasti.

Mentored – residensprogram: Konstnär, välkommen på residens. 1-2 månaders residensprogram är tillgängliga och skräddarsys efter dina egna konstnärliga önskemål. I residensprogrammet ingår din egen konstnärlig Mentor, som ger dig stöd i ditt konstnärliga arbete. Du kommer att delta i en aktiv tvärvetenskaplig gemenskap, ha tillgång till en lägenhet och en egen ateljé, samt användning av mångsidiga faciliteter för ditt egna konstnärliga arbete. Priset för residensprogrammet är 1850 €/månad. Inkluderar mentorskap, eget rum i en delad lägenhet, egen ateljé, användning av bastu och handledning på plats i användningen av faciliteterna. Yoga eller ljudbad vid HealInn finns öppet för konstnärerna att delta. Ansökningsperiod är öppen och vi behandlar ansökningar löpande.

1. CV/Resumé (doc, pdf)
2. Project plan / artist statement of short and straight forward (approximately 500 words) outlying how you wish to spend your time at Malakta, please also specify preferred residency duration and dates.
3. 6-10 images of work (max 10mb files in total) or links to online videos.
4. Your personal wish for the Mentoring and support for your artistic work.

Selected applicants will be notified by email.

Fees: The program fee is 1850€ per month. We will provide chosen artists a detailed letter of invitation to help with funding opportunities.

Malakta Artist in Residency (AiR) program: For artists and creatives the residency program is open to apply. / Vi tar emot ansökningar av konstnärer och kreatörer till residensprogrammet. / Haku on auki residenssiohjelmiin taiteilijoille ja luovan alan ammattilaisille. In the residency there is included a use of a shared apartment with your own bedroom and a personal workspace regarding your needs. We have different shared workspaces too, that can be used when they are free or booked personally for you. In the residency program there is a professional on-site mentoring included by the local artists at Malakta. The mentor will be picked for you personally, regarding your artistic wishes for your stay. The price for the residency program is 1850€ for one person per one month. If you wish to stay for a shorter or longer time, or if you arrive with your family, let us know to check the price for you. For any artistic help needed, just let us know your wishes and we will see what is possible to arrange for your stay.

The aim of the Malakta Artist in Residency (AiR) programme is to provide a creative space where artists can work, develop, share, interact and experiment as well as a space for inner reflection and recharge.

Malakta is located in the middle of a beautiful and quiet countryside, and is a family friendly residence. We have artist families as permanent habitants and our community of artists is active daily, so atmosphere is welcoming, life filled and safe.  And by the way, we have two saunas!

The residency is suitable for both individual artist and groups and families. We offer access to a range of studios and work facilities, and a place to meet with other creative people in a cozy and collaborative community. We encourage applications from a wide range of artists of different cultural and geographic backgrounds. We are open for applications for all phases – from initial research to finishing works.

For our artists we offer possibilities to hold artist talks, exhibitions, engage with community arts activities and to realize collaborative projects. Tailored individually. We want artists also to experience the beautiful Ostrobothnian nature and culture.

The Malakta AiR offers private sleeping rooms with access to shared kitchen and bathroom facilities which all are located at Heal Inn. Heal Inn is a space for wellness and recovery. Wooden floor and nordic light create good vibes for dance, yoga and meditation.

Working studio is to be chosen according to each artist’s needs and wishes.

For selected artists we offer possibilities to hold artist talks, exhibitions, engage with community arts activities, realize collaborative projects and to experience the beautiful Ostrobothnian nature and culture.

Working and Studios:

Studio Toivo,  is on the top of Malakta, a space with high ceiling and windows from all directions allowing light to flow through.

Studio Eila, also on the same floor as Toivo. The studio has a massive fireplace and a nice view over Malax river and the courtyard.

Spray tower – A cozy space with acoustics perfect for arranging concerts, performances and exhibitions, the multifunctional heart of Malakta. With access to the garden with fruit trees and herbs. There are also chickens and rabbits.

Also a wide range of workshops are accessible for the artists, with basic tools for wood, metal, clay, textile and graffiti. Graphic print space and a darkroom.

Other facilities: We have two wood fired saunas and the possibility to go swimming in the river just beside them. Malakta is located at the coastline in Ostrobothnia and there is not a long bike ride to the sea. In the courtyard there is a fireplace for evening grills and get-togethers.

Getting around: There are bikes at the residency for artists to use and food stores nearby. There are also possibilities to carpooling with other artists in Malakta or local buses to get around.
